Finally, it’s here the car we all have been waiting for a long time. Yes, it’s the new ultimate MPV The Kia Carnival. Although there are not many MPV’s in India. Still, the car ruling in this segment in India currently is the Toyota Innova Crysta because of its reliability and Toyota’s aftersales services. Before it was reviled we thought that it will compete with the Innova but Kia told that the Carnival will create a new segment between the Innova and the Mercedes Benz V-Class which is true according to its price and its cabin space. But still, it may attract many Innova buyers by making them pay a bit extra.
It comes in 3 variants prestige(7 or 9 seater) , premium(7 or 8 seater) , limousine(only 7 seater)
The Carnival has a massive road presence and it makes everyone turn their head to just look at it! Yes it's massive but it doesn’t look ugly at all, at the front it has Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille, Let headlights and ice cube-style fog lights.
From sides its very long with a normal driver door and a big electric sliding door which can also be opened or closed by key fab. it's 5115 mm long and 1755 mm high. It gets 18-inch chrome alloys which look good in white colour but it may look weird in other colours and it offers disk brakes in all wheels. It has keyless entry on all doors and has electric foldable ORVM’s which are obvious at this price point. At the back, it has big LED taillights and electric tailgate in the top-end variant.
The interior of the Carnival is also superb! It's very spacious that’s why it also has a 9 seater version ! the build quality of the carnival’s interior is very good, it is offered with beige and black colour scheme in all variants with Nappa leather upholstery, the driver seat is 10-way power-adjustable and ventilated while the co-driver seat is manually adjustable and does not have ventilation. It has auto-dimming IRVM(Inside Rear View Mirror), 8-inch touch screen with apple car play and android auto but the screen is small for a car this expensive, wireless charging, push start-stop button, dual electric sunroof, 3 zone climate control, 8 speaker Harman Kardon music system, UV cut glass, inbuilt air purifier and a lot more!
But despite all this in the front, the 2nd row of the top-end variant of the Carnival is the place to be in! 2nd row has 2 individual captain seats with additional leg support and 10-inch smart rear entertainment screens and it offers a ton of headroom and legroom. the inside feels very airy because of huge windows and dual sunroof and both the 2nd and 3rd row have manual sunshades.
Kia Carnival is also a very practical car with many empty spaces to keep stuff. It gets 2 gloveboxes in the dash, bottle holders on doors, cup holders in the middle and has massive armrest storage. It offers 540L of boot space with all the rows in place which can be extended to 1,624L and 2,759L by folding 3rd and 2nd row respectively.
The safety in the Carnival isn’t compromised at all. It gets 6 airbags, traction control, electronic stability control system, front and rear sensors, rear parking camera, ABS, auto defogger, electric parking brake, hill start assist, TPMS(Tyre Pressure Monitoring System). It does not have a 360-degree camera which is offered in the Seltos that is way cheaper than the Carnival. A 360-degree camera is highly needed in this car because it will be difficult to park this huge vehicle.
It has a 2.2L 4 cylinder CRDe BS-VI compliant engine with 8-speed automatic transmission. It produces 197bhp@3800rpm and 440nm@1500-2750rpm of torque which is sufficient to move this car.
In our opinion, the Carnival is a superb car with many new features. If you are planning to buy an Innova then out suggestion is to increase your budget a little bit and go for the Carnival because it is much better and luxurious than the Innova.
