The Mercedes Benz E class is in the Indian car market for quite a while now. But with the latest generation and the new Exclusive E220d variant, it has become a game-changer. It competes with luxury sedans like BMW 5 series, Audi A6, Jaguar XF and Volvo S90. All of the cars have their own specialities like the 5 series drives the best, new A6 is filled with a ton of new features and tech, etc . but the new E class is the best package overall. It drives smoothly, has a ton of features and is the most luxurious car because of many Maybach elements. It comes in 3 diesel variants – Expression E200d has a 2.0L 4 cylinder, Exclusive E220d has a 2.0L 4 cylinder and E350d has a 3.0L V6 and 3 petrol variants – E200 Expression has a 2.0L 4 cylinder, E200 Exclusive has a 2.0L 4 cylinder and E63 S AMG has a 4.0L V8.
But in this review, our main focus will be on the Exclusive variant as it is the most selling and the most feature-rich variant.
The exterior of every Mercedes nowadays is termed as elegant and the same applies to the E class also. Its termed as the baby S class or the baby Maybach. The front is nice with LED headlights, a beautiful front grill and the big Mercedes logo.
From the sides, it is very long (5063mm) and it has a wheelbase of 3079mm. It gets 17-inch alloys.
The rear of the car beautiful as well,
the glittery tail light design looks absolutely stunning and there are cut-outs for dual exhaust pipe but it is not functional at all i.e. fake exhaust.
The interior of the E class fabulous. In the front, it has 2 screens, one for infotainment and one for the gauge cluster. Both are 12.3-inch screens. The quality of the materials used are top-notch, but you can feel a few low quality plastics on the lower half.
Both front seats are power-adjustable and same applies for the rear seats as well.
You also have an analogue clock in the centre of the dash. It has 10 AC vents, 6 in front and 4 in the rear. Centre armrest storage and glove box have a decent amount of space. You can buy the car with either a white interior or a brown.
At the back, you have 3 seats but it is best for 2 people. The armrest is very big, it has a wireless charging pad, a fixed tablet from which you can control things like – ambient lighting, music, moonroof shades, etc. Both rear seats have recliners and powered headrest with a pillow attached to it. It has wooden inserts all over the place. It almost feels like a Maybach in the rear.
The E class is feature-rich. For starters, it has Push-button start, auto headlamps, auto wipers, front and rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, etc . in the exterior.
The interior features are – 3 zone climate control ; 3 screens, 2 of 12.3-inches in front and
1 in rear armrest; 64 colour ambient lighting; 2 moonroof; sunshades for the rear window, quarter glass, rear glass; rear memory seats; auto-dimming IRVM; paddle shifters;
13 speaker Burmester sound system; co-driver seat can be controlled by the driver and rear passenger sitting behind the co-driver seat; wireless charging pad; 4 vanity mirror with lights, 2 in front and 2 in the rear.
The E class has all new necessary safety features like 7 airbags, central locking, hill assist, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera, child locks, ABS, EBD, EBA, ESP, etc.
The e220d Exclusive gets a 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine. It makes 192HP@3800rpm and 400Nm@1600rpm. Its RWD (Rear Wheel Drive). It drives very smoothly and gear shifts are quick. It's not as fun to drive as a BMW but it does the job as a luxury car.
